“Is this the farm that writes the blog?” the sweet woman asked me when she stopped at our booth at the farmer’s market on Tuesday afternoon. To which I replied “indeed, it is.” She had heard about us through a friend who had told her about this farming life, and recommended that she finds us and buy our produce. Which she did. Bravo to you!
It is becoming increasingly more difficult to find a quiet moment to write our weekly Friday morning emails, and post them to our blog. You know how it is – life gets busy, too much to do, and in our case, writing becomes the last thing we find time for. Which was the case this week. With so much rain from last week, the weeds are dominating right now–and we are struggling to keep up. Old crops were tilled in to make space for new ones. Tomatoes were trellised. More seeding happened. Beds were mulched. And in between it all, we are raising a human. She is weed-free and needs no trellising, for now.
Find us tomorrow morning from 8am-12pm at the farmer’s market @ St. Stephen’s, at the Ashland farmer’s market from 9am-1pm, and on Tuesday afternoon at the Byrd House farmer’s market from 3h30-7pm. See you there!
Available at the markets this Saturday and Tuesday are arugula, basil, beets, broccoli, collards, fennel, butter lettuce, green romaine lettuce, green and red curly leaf lettuce, curly kale, Tuscan kale, red Russian kale, Siberian kale, mint, mixed Asian greens/mustard greens, spring peas, red & French breakfast radishes, rosemary bunches, salad mix, Swiss chard, spring onions, parsley, and Japanese salad turnips.
Beyond our time constraints and tired bodies there is always time for poetry (and taking photos). Our daughter is learning that very fast as we recite Mary Oliver and Adam Small to her in the moments that we simply don’t know how else to soothe her. The southern and socially conscious poet C.D. Wright points out that “poetry is a necessity of life.” And so it is. Her poem Everything Good Between Men and Woman shows her exquisite experimental style, for which she is well known. Happy Friday!
